1 〔のばす〕 stretch; 〔広げる〕 spread; 〔しわなどを〕 smooth out; 〔アイロンで平らにする〕 iron 《linen》; 〔金属を〕 roll; planish.

●紙のしわをのす flatten [smooth out] crumpled paper; smooth the wrinkles out of a piece of paper

・小麦粉をこねてめん棒でのす knead dough and roll it flat [out] with a roller

・餅を平らにのして切る roll (a) mochi flat and cut it (into pieces).

2 〔殴り倒す〕 knock sb out [down, groggy]; lay sb out [low]; send sb sprawling; stretch 《sb on the ground》; floor; finish (off).
